Event: Fusebox Festival April 10-12, 2015….Free Soil Testing!

We want to share the news about The Soil Kitchen, a 3-day opportunity for gardeners to receive free soil tests organized by the City of Austin. This will take place April 10-12 from 10am-6pm during the Fusebox Festival at 1098 Jain Lane in East Austin

Have your soil tested on-site during the event while you enjoy the rest of the activities. Go to www.austintexas.gov/soilkitchen for more details.

SFC is serving as a pick-up site for the required sample collection materials – scoops, jars and Ziplock bags.

·         The jars are for semi-volatile organic compounds and legacy pesticides.

·         The Ziploc bags are for metals, pH, and nutrients (if you would like to test for metals, pH, and nutrients, you’ll need to pick up 2 bags, as metals are analyzed separately from pH and nutrients).

·          You will also need to pick up a set of instructions with the required labels for the jars.

·         *Jar samples must stay refrigerated* but ziplock bags do not need to be refrigerated before you bring them to The Soil Kitchen.

All of the materials and instructions are currently in the SFC building lobby located at 2921 E. 17th St. Bldg C, Austin, TX 78702, open Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

If you have any questions, please contact Christine Whitney by phone 512-974-6085 or Christine.whitney@austintexas.gov who is overseeing the sampling and event.

 We hope you can participate!

Bring successful food programs to your community!
